Chic Sheepskin

It's no secret that I'm a total fan of faux fur... it's so soft, and on cold winter nights, there is nothing better than snuggling on the sofa with something fluffy and cozy.

We've got faux fur happening in the living room in the form of a throw blanket and two throw pillows, and I decided to take it another step further a few months back with a sheepskin throw.

Do you remember this chair in our dining room (turned office space)?  It's been one of my favorite chairs since spraying it dark, recovering the cushion and adding this sheepskin.  On weekends, it's where I drink my coffee or talk on the phone to my mama.

For anyone still not sold on the idea of a sheepskin throw, let me just say... it is SO GOOD.  So freaking soft, and plush, and just $30 from Ikea.

They look so beautiful draped over a chair or sofa, but would be equally amazing as a little rug on the side of your bed (there is nothing worse than the cold floor in the middle of the night when you get out of bed for a glass of water).

Wouldn't they also be the perfect little rug for a baby's room?  I mean you spend so much time on the floor, why not spend it on something soft??

Thoughts?  Do you love sheepskin as much as I do, or is it something you'd rather admire from afar?

Faux Fur - Three Ways

                                 Source

Everyone has an opinion on faux fur, and I for one happen to love it.  I don't have the heart (or the money) to invest in real fur, and there is something so cozy AND chic about it in the winter.

If I were to try and describe my style in a nutshell, it would say that I go for feminine tailored pieces with classic lines, pops of color, and a few "fashion-y" statement pieces mixed in.  My style icons are Jackie O, Miranda Kerr, Kate Spade, and Victoria Beckham.  I rarely go for the overly blousy, off the shoulder tops, or the boho-chic look - regardless of how much I admire it on others - but this new year, I am going to step out of my comfort zone, and take on faux fur.  A faux fur vest to be precise.

I think if styled correctly, it can work for many occasions, and while definitely on the edgy side of style, I think I can work it into my wardrobe, with the staples I already love to wear.

For Work:
Faux Fur I

Carven sheer long sleeve blouse, $710 / MNG by Mango fake fur vest / True Religion slim fit jeans / KORS Michael Kors high heels / Mulberry zippered tote bag / Juicy Couture swarovski crystal jewelry / Dorothy Perkins two tone earrings / NARS Cosmetics , $31

Grabbing a pair of black skinny jeans, and a soft brown silk blouse will make this dressy enough for work, but comfy enough to run around the office and meet clients for lunch.  The booties will keep my toes warm, and a big bowler or tote will hold all my stuff.  I'm all about simple accessories for daytime, and light pink lips will be flattering on pale winter skin.

For Weekends:
Faux Fur Vest II

Abercrombie & Fitch embroidered shirt / MNG by Mango faux fur vest / Topshop tall jeans / Minnetonka moccasin / Steve Madden / Rebecca Minkoff collar jewelry / Marie Chavez / MICHAEL Michael Kors leather jewelry

Flannel is bigger now than it was in the 90's, and since it's tailored - not grunge - it would be perfect with jeans, and flat moccasins to look pulled together while running errands or hanging out with friends.  I love that a few layered chains dress things up, and a studded bag keeps it from looking too "back-woods".

For Evenings:
Fur Vest III

T By Alexander Wang long sleeve blouse, $325 / MNG by Mango faux fur vest / Topshop faux leather pants / Kate Spade high heel shoes / Coast gold handbag, $65 / Amrita Singh / Teardrop earrings / Warehouse leopard print belt, $29

Keep the underpinnings simple and black.  Faux leather (stretch) leggings dress things up, and simple black silk blouse (with a few buttons left undone) sex it up a little.  Belt the vest with a little leopard belt, and break out some killer pumps and accessories.  This is perfect for date night and bar hopping in the frigid weather.

Cozy Fur Throw

I took the plunge... this bad boy is the newest addition to our living room... more pictures to come later, but trust me when I say... it feels AMAZING.  Pretty sure that Kris and I will have to duke it out (or row-sham-bo) for this super soft, super cozy (faux) fur throw now that the weather is cooling off.

Sometimes it's the smallest things that get me excited, but I am absolutely LOVING my new purchase.

Faux Fur Fantasies

Whlep... our glorious "Indian Summer" has come to a screeching halt today.  We'd had blazing temperatures in our little city by the bay for the last few days.  Kris and I even got a little evening ritual down where we'd walk down to get some frozen yogurt after dinner - sans hoodies, jackets, or any sort of outerwear.  Yep, that means I was strolling around San Francisco in a sleeveless dress and sandals last night at 9pm.  And I was still hot.

Anyway, the fog just rolled in this afternoon around 4pm, and so I think it's safe to say that our heat wave is over.  Sad.  On the flip side, I've been thinking about cozy fall nights, and I keep coming back to the idea of fur.  Actually... faux fur.  Scared yet?

Don't be... I think there are some fabulous options, and done in the right way, it can look really pretty - cozy, inviting, and not at all "Jersey Shore"

Here are a few shots I'm using for inspiration:

See!!  Amazing right?!  Obviously, a real fur throw would cost me my next year's salary (and then some), and since I'm not into animal cruelty, I'd want to go faux all the way.  Next step??  Finding some viable options that are not only in the budget, but that don't look like fake fur.

I saw that West Elm had a few priced at $119.  Not bad, and they look good enough to burrow in permanently...

World Market had a few last week when I swung in over lunch, but as good as they look in this picture, they felt rough to the touch... it's a shame, because they are a FABULOUS deal at just $60.

What are your thoughts on faux fur in the house?  Big mistake, or amazing decision?*All homes a feature of Houzz
