Date Night

Tonight, Kris and I are heading out for a much needed date night - nothing over the top, just dinner and a late movie.  Kris has been working such long hours and I've had back to back client events every night... it feels like we are ships in the night!  Well, I'm putting a stop to that.  Date night it is...

I have been dying to go to Out The Door - the cost efficient sister restaurant to The Slanted Door. Take a look at the menu - everything is amazing - the crab cellophane noodles are TO DIE FOR, and the shaking beef?? Don't even get me started.  It's a short walk from our apartment, and is totally on the way to the Kabuki movie theater - possibly the best  theater on earth (you can reserve your seats in advance, there is a bar in the  theater, and the seats are sooooo comfy - my biggest complaint about other theaters).

I can't wait for some romance!  Happy Saturday night!

Who's that Handsome Guy??

This was actually a photo I snapped while we were watching TV on the first Saturday after we moved into our apartment.  Doesn't Kris look especially cute here?

Last night, I dreamed that we had just gotten engaged and we were excitedly telling our families and friends.  I woke up this morning a bit sad upon realizing it was just a dream.  My friend Lindsay told me that if you dream it, it's going to happen soon.  I don't know if I'd go that far, but it certainly is a lovely thought...

We Made It!!

This past weekend was utterly exhausting - I unfortunately have been battling my first cold of the season, and perhaps it's in my head, but the aches and pains have become noticeably more acute each year.  Regardless, I powered through, and after 3 full days of packing, lifting, lugging, and transporting, everything we own is now in the new place!  Last night marked a new beginning for me - it was the first night since we've moved in that I've slept the entire night all the way through, and it felt great.  Today I am making a conscious effort to cancel all events for the remainder of the week so I can focus on nesting at home and getting things in order.  I know this grace period of not minding the clutter will be gone before I know it, so I had better get a handle on organizing it all early.

It is AMAZING how much stuff two people can accumulate.  I spent all of Friday going through my stuff with my mom - she was so sweet and spent her day off helping me pack up my life... the things mom's do!  We sorted through clothes I no longer wear (or no longer fit, eeks) tossed old things I've been hanging on to, and organized room after room.  Right now, the trunk of my car is filled to the brim with garbage bags, stuffed with clothes to give away.  From a glance, it looks like I'm some mob queen with bodies ready for dumping. Ha!  Saturday the movers took care of the big stuff, and on Sunday Kris and I went through his stuff - much more fun to toss his things out than mine, but it was so therapeutic   Getting rid of so much stuff, really gave us the feeling that we were starting fresh together.

The weather has taken a turn, and our San Francisco summer is just a memory now.  The air has a chill in it that I have not felt in a year, the leaves have changed overnight, and we need an extra blanket on the bed.  The new apartment is wonderful - it's still packed to the brim, and I am trying to find a home for everything.  This takes a bit of strategy since closet space is limited, and my shoe collection has ballooned over the past several years.  Luckily, the boxes and clutter have not gotten to me yet, so while the new place is a huge mess, I am unfazed (for now).  Ask me in a week, and I will be going out of my mind that we are still not settled.

With the change in weather and the new apartment, it feels that with the new season is a new part of my life.  Shedding the old, and moving forward with the new.  It's exciting, and scary, and weird, yet so normal to wake up with the love of my life in our new home together.

I found these super cool photos of San Francisco covered in fog - while the weekend was rainy and today is crisp and clear, these shots are so cool, and sooo San Francisco.

The BIG Move

The move is less than a week away now and I am really starting to feel the pressure!  We signed the lease over a month ago, and the waiting is just killing me.  Ever since I was a little girl, I have never done well with changes - our weekend vacation in Clear Lake would end and I would cry the entire way home, the last day of school - more tears, moving off to college - hysterics as I waved goodbye in the UCSB parking lot.  No shame.

While I am so thrilled that we are starting the next chapter of our lives in a new place together, it hit me last night that this is my last week that I will be living with my best friend.  Probably the last week I will ever live with girlfriends.  The chapter of my life in my carefree twenties, eating ramen (yes I still do), stretching pennies, and sharing clothes is closing, and having loved it so much, this life change is so bittersweet.  I have been having a lot of trouble sleeping - actually this morning there was a HUGE earthquake around 5am, and I just couldn't get back to sleep.  I layed there thinking about all the things I have to do - the packing, the hiring movers, the laundry, the cleaning, patching holes, matching paint, and THEN... more cleaning, organizing, unpacking, sorting, and revamping in the new place.  I wish this move was over and done with so I could get back to me regular nine hours of sleep!  The anxiety is killing me!

All Loved Up

I met Kris 5 years ago.  At a bar.  As all great love stories start.

I've always known how lucky I was to have him, however, recently I have found myself more in love than ever.  That actually sounded way more cheesy out loud than it did in my head, but it's true.

After 5 years of dating, we have made the decision to move in together.  For us, this is a big step.  It's grown up.  And it's us finally acknowledging that unless we kill each other in Ikea over which ottoman to get, then we will most likely get married.  It's scary and exciting, and having him meet me at lunch to see a 1BR/1BA in the Marina (a neighborhood which he hates and I love) reminds me of everything I love about him.

To my hunny bunny - with whom I have never celebrated an anniversary - I am luckier than you will ever know.  Thank you for not calling me back when I first gave you my number next to the mechanical bull.  Thank you for making me work for it.  And, thank you for showing me what real love is like.
