Cherry Blossom Branches

Spring has sprung in San Francisco, and the freakishly warm days here have forced the cherry blossom trees in our neighborhood to bloom early.  The city now has big clouds of pink blossoms everywhere which makes me want some pretty blossoming branches to put in a big vase in our living room.

How gorgeous and natural are these arrangements?!  Don't tell me you aren't wanting a big bundle of flowering branches now!

In a pitcher next to a big soaking tub... so very french provincial, no?

This photo looks like it was taking in San Francisco (although I have no proof of that).  My dream home - lots of white, lots of light, and that beautiful crown molding   The branches get to take center stage with the simple decor.

Branches of cherry blossoms and tulips (from a tulip tree)  I'll take it.  I actually saw a flowering tulip tree just a few blocks over, and had serious thoughts of tip-toeing over there in the middle of the night to cut a few down.  So wrong. I'm embarrassed to admit it!

Ahh, a big bushel of branches in my future home.  Well the future home of my dreams that is.  Wah!
Was the matching pink pillow planted here just to pick up the color in the blossoms?  Genius.  Feminine and masculine (with that black leather) all at the same time!

And, here is the cutest little Easter tablescape in the history of the world.  Those little ceramic bunnies hopping about... the happy Easter egg ornaments hanging from the branches??  I love LOVE LOOVEEE it all!

Does this have you dreaming of cherry blossoms too now?

Pink and Gold

Ahh, happy Tuesday!  I had a fabulous long weekend in the mountains with my best friend and her family, and I am back, and refreshed!!  On my mind today??  This lovely spring-like weather SF is having... and with that, spring time colors...

Seriously, is there anything better than a color combo of pink and gold?  It's feminine, delicate, and now that Christmas is over, and Valentine's day is the next "big holiday" I keep seeing it EVERYWHERE.  I think it's such a pretty combination for everything.  It's feminine without being girly.  It's fresh, and pretty, and just screams Spring is around the corner!!

Some of my favorites??

This chair for starters... Hello beautiful - wouldn't this make a fabulous desk chair, or dining chair for the head of the table?  Even in a hallway, or best of all, in a huge, lovely walk in closet!

For a party - favors and cake.  Pink and gold are right at home here!!

Fresh flowers and a pretty votive candle are perfect in pink and gold.  Imagine if those garden roses were in a gold vase.  Ugh - I want!

For the daring - pink and gold wallpaper.  Perhaps the sassiest combination of these colors yet!

Gold flatware is making a huge comeback - imagine an Easter table set with these and pretty pink ribbons.

In art, this look is bold, but still very soft at the same time (does that even make sense??)  What a pretty combo with that brass lamp for a home office.

If you aren't fully committed to pink and gold in your home, this fun wrapping paper would make any friend smile on her birthday...

Or for Valentines Day, this skirt could easily take you to work, as well as to dinner with your honey, or V-Day drinks with girlfriends.

Pink and gold... amazing right??  Get on board!

Pretty Pink Peonies

I have a serious obsession, but they are sooo pretty, and only $7 at the grocery store!  I can't stop myself - peonies are literally THE MOST BEAUTIFUL flower on the planet!

Don't they also look so pretty in the morning light? Kris most likely thinks I'm insane to be snapping a few photos before work, but he's stuck with me now! Ha!

Spring has Sprung

The sun is out, the weather has been warming, and you know what that means!  It's time to break out the sundresses, sandals, and light weight clothing!  It also makes me REALLY want to go shopping with all the cute spring lines hitting the stores.  The color of the season??  Tangerine Tango!

Pantone - the authority on color - voted, and here it is in all it's summery glory!  Now that you've seen it, you will start seeing it everywhere!  I took to Polyvore to create an inspiration board for this color - if Tangerine Tango doesn't scream summer, I don't know what does!

Backless Dresses: Fashion Inspiration

I've been totally wowed with some of the super sexy backless dresses I've seen - most are modest in the front, and total sex goddess in the back.  Mama always said, "only show-off one part of your body at once"... not sure she had these little numbers in mind with that advice!

With the weather warming, and a possible tropical vacation on my horizon, I can't get the idea of a sassy backless dress to go with my tan (spray tan, but still)so I've decided to do a little outfit recreation - enjoy!

Pretty Spring Flowers

The light in the living room was so pretty this morning, I couldn't help myself - I had to snap several pictures of the ranunculus that are blooming by the windows.  I love this time of year when the sun rises earlier, and sets later, asparagus is in season, and the most lovely flowers are blooming.

Happy Monday!

Spring Blooms

Trader Joe's is my source for flowers - they are cheap, and they stock seasonal flowers.  On this gloomy Monday, as I was wandering the aisles on my lunch break, I discovered that Ranunculus are in season, and promptly bought several bunches.

I love their soft springtime scent, and their many layers of petals - they remind me of little ballerina tutus or full party skirts.  I love that they have multiple flowers branching off each stem, and that when they are simply plopped into a vase, they look natural, and wild, and perfect.  I love that they are lovely in every color - white, yellow, pink and orange.  I love that their buds are cute and tucked in, and that they continue to bloom as time passes.

What a treat to start the week!

Winter Showers bring Spring Flowers

Cherry Blossom Walk, Sakura, Japan
The forecast here is dark and gloomy... rain and more rain for the next several days.  So sad after the amazing warm weather last week!

I am a very sad girl over this...

Did I wake up in Paris?

Unfortunately, the answer to that question, is no, but isn't that french tutor across the street from my apartment just gorgeous?

It's feeling a lot like spring in San Francisco, and I've been keeping track of the seasonal changes based on the gorgeous cherry blossom tree across the street from our apartment.  Look at all those blooms - in one week, the tree went from a few pink tinges to a full blown cloud of cotton candy.  Anyways, every day when I leave for work, I pass by this house, and for a split second, I get to pretend that I'm trotting down the street in Paris... Bonjoir!

2012 Fashion Obsessions

A new year, a new look - things at work have been a bit slow today, so I have been spending a bit of time contemplating my new must haves for this year.  My look is classic contemporary - a mix of classic pieces, spiced up with some fun new ideas.  For inspiration, I am always drawn to the '50s and '60s - the hip retro clothes are so amazing - full skirts that accentuate the waist, a great trench, bright colors, shift dresses, flowy fabrics, soft feminine silks, and of course a good blazer or trench NEVER goes out of style.

Most recently I have been experimenting with more flashy touches - red lipstick, big buns on top of your head, over-sized scarves, and statement necklaces.  I am really into gold jewelry right now, but still go back to my basics - striped shirts, skinny jeans and cigarette pants, and any leopard accessories I can get my hands on.

Here are the things I am most in love with for the remainder of winter and early spring:

OVERSIZE LEOPARD SCARF:
How chic does she look?!  Effortless but pulled together - the red lips, oversize glasses, and big bun scream classic retro, but the scarf is very on trend.  Also - leopard can easily go from trendy to trashy, so look for a print with depth to the color, rich golds and browns, and variation to the size of the prints - monotone colors and prints end up looking cheap.

FULL SKIRTS:

So flattering it will blow you away - full skirts nip in at the waist - at the NATURAL waist I might add - and flow out over the tummy and hips.  They can be ladylike like image #3, or hip like  image #2 or flirty like image #1 (love her shoes too!).  Pair with tights when it's still cold out, and let your legs bring on the stares when it warms up!  So amazing - loving the ultra full skirts recently - a good pleat keeps them from getting bulky around your middle.

DRESSED UP SHORTS:
LOVE how its preppy, but still covered up - this is the perfect combination for brunch on a gorgeous day that might have a bit of a crisp bite to the air still!

Clearly I have summer on the mind, because this outfit is not going to fly in San Francisco in January.  I am loving the combo of casual and flowy, with the sky high heels and clutch.  My new thing is bright colors - even in the winter, and the periwinkle with coral is so fresh and lovely.  I makes me want to sit out on a patio on a warm day with a cold glass of sauvignon blanc.

BIG BUNS:
This bun is SO over the top fabulous - its fancy and messy all at the same time.

MILITARY INSPIRED:

Military inspired styles always have clean lines, big brass buttons, and mix chic and pulled together simultaneously.  A good pea coat never goes out of style, and the cropped version or the skirted version are a little more unique and lady-like.  LOVE.

SPARKLES:

Sparkles draw attention, so be sure that whatever it is, fits impecabbly and is really flattering.  If your problem area is your mid-section, do not do form-fitting sparkles - not only is it an attention grabber, but sparkles can also make things appear larger than they are.  A safe bet for sparkles is footwear - everyone's feet are petite, so if a lot of sparkle scares you, start there.  This look is definitely a date night / night out with the girls type look - NOT work appropriate, so sparkle with caution!

HIGH WAISTED PANTS:

This is upscale, and utterly retro - be sure pants fit around the natural waist (at the tiniest part) to ensure no extra bulk.  Avoid pleats of any kind - flat front works on most body types.  This is very Jackie O, so pair it with a fitted sweater, or tucked in blouse.  Add some pearls if you are going for a more classic / timeless vibe, or funk it up with some modern statement jewelry.

So that's it - these are my most recent obsessions.  As the spring collections go mainstream, I'm sure there will be more to add, but this should keep my credit card occupied in the meantime!

xoxo
