Fab Finds in an Unexpected Place

It's been a while since I last checked in here, but after browsing through the World Market site, I felt compelled to stop in.

Is it me or is World Market having a moment right now??  Have you been??  I'm dying to check out some of their stuff - furniture, lighting, and especially kitchen supplies.  I'm not getting paid in any way by them to post this - I just am very VERY impressed right now.

Case in point??  This chair.

I feel like it belongs in Mad Men.  A far cry from those papasan chairs that my sister and I used to roll around in when we were kids. 

We're looking for a comfortable side chair for the living room right now, and if this is comfy, it could be a real contender!  I am dying to go check this out in person!!  Gorgeous!

I've been keeping my eye peeled for a different overhead lighting options for our dining room, entry, and bedroom, to replace the boob lights that are everywhere in our place.  Don't know what a boob light is?  Google image it... there are thousands of examples.

The top is beautiful with the hexagonal wood inlay.  They look so much more expensive than they are!

There are some really cook kitchen finds as well... I LOVE the marble lazy susan, although a part of me wishes it was just a cheese board.

This Utensil Canister is also really lovely, and I've been looking for a replacement for our sad little one I've had since my college days.

I love the look of this "dipped" salad bowl - super organic and simple.

And speaking of simple, organic stuff... I'm loving the grain-sack napkins and tea towels that look like they came straight out of a small shop in Provence.

And how cute is this cutting board???

Finally, for a little glam... this tray is really lovely.  Looks like something you'd find from Horchow...

Bargain Find Bar Cart

That's right... that's a brushed brass bar cart (with wood shelves)!

Look at it styled up all pretty on their site...

I looked for pictures of it styled in someone's actual home, but it's still so new, there were none to be found.  I was a little curious about what the quality would be like... I mean it's Target right?  Well it's got glowing reviews online, and everyone says the "wood" is real wood!  Holla!!

Let's talk about price... $129 is AN UNREAL PRICE for a bar cart.

The CHEAPEST brass bar cart I could find was still going to be well over $600 from Crate and Barrel once you factor in tax and delivery.  I don't know what made these become popular... perhaps all the great mid-century furniture on Mad Men?? but regardless, current prices definitely reflect their current popularity.  My point, this little Target bar cart is a bargain and a half - run, don't walk if you want one.

My friend Lindsay recently scored a bar cart from her new husbands old boss for a STEAL, but that is so rare to find one of these at a good cost.

Do you remember the bar cart I found last year at the antique shop near my house??  I am still kicking myself for passing that up... the one that got away!  It was perfect.  Ah, live and learn.

We don't really have a spot in our apartment that is crying out for a bar cart, I feel like I need it since I've wanted one for so long... perhaps I'll head over to Target to snag it this weekend, and if it doesn't work, I can always take it back... right??

Let's play a little word association game - I'm going to name a store and then list out all the words that come to mind when I think of that store.

Urban Outfitters.

Ready-set-go:

College dorm-room, overpriced hoodies, hipster clothing, weird coffee table books, knick-knacks, faux-vintage, mustache themed everything, slogan t-shirts.

Ahhhh, I feel better - now here's the thing... the other day I posted about that cool accordion side table from Urban Outiftters that was $75 compared to similar tables that retailed in the hundreds.  That led me to do a little investigating of my own, and I've come to find out, Urban Outfitters has grown up a bit since the last time I popped in for an over-priced (but super soft) v-neck t-shirt.  Turns out, they actually have some pretty FABULOUS home accessories, and it's cheap!  I would never have put Urban Outfitters in the category of "great home decor" but they seriously are!

Aside from this fabulous table, here are some of my favorite finds!!

TABLES & STORAGE:

Awesome, right??  I am especially loving the owl garden stool and the gold hexagon side table. I probably won't pull the trigger on the owl, only becuase it seems to be a little too trendy, and doesn't seem like something I'll love 6 months from now.  Also, not that we are in the market for a console, but the Draper style console is really cool - something I think my sister would be really into.  Her house is full of mid-century pieces, and this little guy would fit right in (in my humble opinion).

Both of these have great lines, and details that I LOOVVEEE.  You all know how obsessed I am with nail-head trim, so both these beauties are A-OK in my book.

Let me start by saying that I probably wouldn't put these sofas or the chaise in my living room.  And by probably, I mean, never.  The day to night sofa (pictured in a heathered brown) would be great in an office-guestroom combo, since it does convert into a sleeper sofa.  And the chaise and Gramercy sofa are so overly feminine - I see those living in a huge walk in closet, dressing room, or bathroom.  They might even be good for an entry-way as well, but not so much for the living room.

I'd be thrilled to have any three of those chairs in our living room - the hot pink Madeline Chair especially jumps out at me.  That shocking pink for some reason doesn't look that "girly" although I'm sure Kris would disagree with me on that.  Luckily, also comes in a ton of other colors.

I think this chair might even get added onto my growing list of potential side chair candidates for our living room...

All in all, I'd say I've totally changed my mind about Urban Outfitters...

Frugal Finds - O'verlays

BEST FIND ALL WEEK!!  Who doesn't love having gorgeous furniture?! Everyone! Who loves to pay thousands to furnish their home?  Crickets...

Danika & Cheryl have created O'verlays - a company dedicated to the easy, graphic customization of furniture... most specifically, Ikea furniture.  Yup... Ikea.  With a little bit of elbow grease, you can whip up some super affordable, super stylish furniture for your bedroom, living room, dining room, ____________ room - fill in the blank - the possibilities are endless, and just look at how fabulous these pieces look!

I have to add, I am NOT being paid to endorse their product - I just think it's a seriously awesome idea, and I'm stoked I stumbled upon it!  

'Who uses it' you wonder? Well I think anyone who loves a good steal, but it would be a great for a 20 something who is just starting out and can't afford a ton of designer pieces.  It's great to dress up a kid's room, or a guest room that needs some style without a hefty price tag, and its perfect for a person (like me) who easily gets bored with decor and is looking to spice up an entry table, TV stand, or work space.  Also if you want something graphic but aren't sure you want to commit for years, you don't have to feel bad, because depending on how you attach the panels, you can remove it in a few years if you are looking for a new look and feel.

What I love best is that Danika & Cheryle actually sell kits that are already cut to fit Ikea furniture.  If you know you are working on the 6 drawer Malm dresser, you don't even have to measure - you can just search the patterns by the name of the Ikea piece you are looking to make-over, and voila, you are up and running!  What could be easier?!

Last thing (I swear) - they are so awesome that they have been featured by Nate Berkus Show.  Yeah - Oprah's go to man for home styling... no big deal... 

I know that I've got quite a few projects lined up over the next few months - finishing the nightstands and armoire, overhauling the bedroom and finishing the living room, but I'm thinking that in between fabricating some awesome campaign furniture, and sealing the bedroom furniture, I might be able to test out O'verlay's on a small side table in the living room, or possibly the wine rack in the dining room...
